go do stuff πŸ“ΈπŸ

this was originally going to be a blog post about my experience about taking photos with film (i'll make this another day). which was prompted by a mate asking me about what i use. but it turned into a stream of consciousness. i'll leave it up for now.

i used various disposables initially, realised i wanted to try a variety of films so i got myself a kodak f9. it's cheap, and allows me to load film rather than a disposable which is preloaded. i tried out ultramax, colourplus, gold, hp5, fujicolour - liked em all 'cept for gold (too warm for my liking). keen to try out some tungsten film soon. currently also borrowing a Ricoh shotmaster ultra zoom 2 (yeah that's a mouthful) from a lovely friend.

i was explaining the difference between plastic lens (those found on disposables, and cheaper camers such as my kodak f9) and glass lens (found on most other cameras). one thing that i pointed out was to get something cheap, and once you realise you enjoy this medium, to invest in something nicer. upon giving this advice i realised, "well why the hell haven't i bought my own glass lens camera" and it came down to "i dont have interesting enough things to shoot" so i convince myself that it's not worth investing in better.

this same train of thought follows when i read other blogs on Bear. people seem to have so much happening in their lives, and are always writing about something. but i realise that

  1. people do have things happening, but people also choose to share highlight reels. also what's stopping me from making things:tm: happen? why do should i wait for things to happen to me (e.g. getting invites to parties n meetups)
  2. things don't necessarily need to happen to write about things. you, i, can write about anything we please to do so about. seems that i was just making excuses for not writing. so what's been holding me back?

so go do stuff. go take photos of things. write.

coming back to the cameras, and photography - i'm realising more and more that whilst it can be a hobby on its own, i find that it's best as a supplementary hobby to begin with.

for example in my case, i enjoy motorbikes, auto related matters so i photograph the moments surrounding this hobby initially. that gives me the push to go and shoot something. otherwise that camera would never leave my bookshelf. if i dilly dally and take my camera with me everywhere, sometimes i'll take a photo or two. but for the most part these won't be intentional, (and that's okay sometimes) but i want to be more intentional about my photos, thoughtful (at least recently). perhaps you enjoy music, concerts, food, you go to a lot of social gatherings. these (and many more) are fantastic places to use that hobby. also, print your photos! give them out! people will love you for it. 000012070001
